I once read, in my youth, a write-up in some music book to the effect that most of the popular tunes of Carmen were “adapted” from Yradier’s tunes. It focused on 4 or 5 tunes, including the Card Game, and “Pres des ramparts de Seville” – basically, her (Carmen’s) tunes. It included “before” and “after” samples (in staff notation) and was quite convincing. It didn’t mention that Bizet “thought” they were folk tunes.

If any readers of this note recognize the book from the above, maybe they could cite it, adding a few words about Yradier’s influence on the famous tunes of Carmen, helping rescue him a bit from the obscurity in which he died. -- Randall, Craigsville 68.57.50.28 (talk) 00:30, 30 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
