Scottish?
editI am sympathetic to subjects of articles wanting the real them to be portrayed. En editor claiming to be Roché has said he is Scottish (see COIN thread), but the wiki page says he was born and educated in France. One of his parents is apparently Scottish (fr: écossais). There are a few French and English sources saying he has "Scottish blood". The appropriate place for the Scottish bit is in the part that described his upbringing, and in citizenship, if proven by sources. I'm going to remove Scottish from the lede as it is not sourced anywhere. --- Possibly ☎ 04:22, 18 October 2021 (UTC)
- Hello,
- Sebastian Roché here, I have been blocked from editing a page about me for whatever reason but I do insist on adding that i am not solely a French actor, I am also British, of Scottish origin to be exact. Adding my dual nationality is primordial for me as an actor establishing that I am bilingual and can act fluently in English. Saying that I am a French actor is wrong. I have been in the States since 1991 am a US citizen, and have acted in English for the majority of my career. I only ask for the person editing my page to add Scottish-French actor or British-French actor. I do not want to be seen as a french actor which implies I live in France and limits my employment as such. Also, whoever is editing my page should do it well, which they're not, they haven't added Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities and Taylor Sheridan's 1923 (prequel to Yellowstone). If you are going to block the person who knows the most about his own career, then do your job as an editor, please. And please unblock my capacity to edit my own page. For a site that constantly asks for money from users, I am not very impressed by your somewhat bullying tactics
- If you want me to send a visual proof that this is in fact Sebastian Roché, please let me know where i can send it safely. And "Possibly"? I am half british, i have a british passport, you pre supposing that my nationality is not what it is on your October 18th 2021 post really shows your total lack of information on my person. Did you "google" your "own" research? Not very serious in my opinion. And the editor in question claiming this is Avoman ie me, Sebastian Roché.
- Anxiously waiting for your reply. And can we change the hideous photo in my bio as well with one I can send you? Avoman (talk) 00:27, 22 December 2022 (UTC)
- @Avoman: Hello. I'm not the person you're replying to (I'm just a random other editor), but to answer some of the questions you've asked:
- Regarding "French actor" -- the guideline in Wikipedia's Manual of Style is MOS:NATIONALITY, which says to note the country where the person is a citizen/permanent resident, and possibly previous nationalities if they were relevant to the person's notability. We don't usually identify people by their ethnic ancestry. So for you, as you're an American citizen now, this would mean you should be described either as an "American actor" or "French-American actor". Probably the latter.
- Regarding updating the image -- that's definitely something that can be done. We can't just use any old image though, as most pictures of you will be copyrighted. But if there's an image you own the rights to (e.g. you took it yourself), you can release it under a free license so that we can use it by following this form: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wikimedia_VRT_release_generator.
- Regarding the whole conflict of interest thing -- I hope you understand why direct editing of articles by their subjects is generally discouraged. You're not doing anything improper here, but in general it can be hard for people to remain neutral when they write articles about themselves. Endwise (talk) 01:31, 22 December 2022 (UTC)
