illegal?
editIs illegal to hold secrect ingredients in products, lets say that secrect ingredient was known to cause seizures in a small group of individuals, but the food label didn't display the secrect ingredient because it was a secrect, is that illegal (diffenetly not ethical) to not show every single ingredient on the food label? i guess they can bypass little thing by saying it may cause seizures in a small group, but still. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.15.184.217 (talk • contribs)
- National regulations regulate which additives are need to be enumerated and which are "generally recognized as safe" to the point where they can be subsumed in "natural and artificial flavor". For example, in the USA, the artificial sweeteners in this can of Diet Mtn Dew Code Red soda need to be spelled out because aspartame "contains phenylalanine", which can harm people with phenylketonuria, yet it lists "natural flavor". Nor does the ingredient label need to state the amount of each ingredient, other than in descending order. But you're right that ingredient labeling regulations are conspicuous by their absence from the article. --Damian Yerrick (talk) 01:52, 25 March 2015 (UTC)
