Pictures Needed
editThis is the sort of article where diagrams are sorely needed in order to give the worded descriptions meaning. Perpendicular fields and their resultant forces in the Theory section and geometries in the Classic Geometry section would be good places to start. Also, the descriptions should follow the diagrams, so the diagrams need to use notation that is easy to indicate using Wikipedia's interface. I cannot myself do the diagrams since I do not have expert knowledge in this field nor do I have artistic skill, but hopefully people who do will read this and help out. --BBUCommander (talk) 03:44, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
original publication
editThe correct citation for the Mattauch-Herzog type MS should be: "J. Mattauch, R. Herzog, Über einen neuen Massenspektrographen, Z. Physik 89, 786-795 (1934)". There are also pictures of the original geometry. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.79.113.50 (talk) 09:44, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: move the article to Sector mass spectrometer, per the discussion below. Dekimasuよ! 23:21, 22 October 2014 (UTC)
Sector instrument → Double-focusing mass spectrometer – I tried to make this move, but it was rejected, apparently because five years ago the page was moved from 'double-focusing...' to the present one. That was a bad move. The article is almost entirely about double-focusing mass spectrometers, including types that are not actually sector instruments. This title needs to be changed back! - Comment my first thought with this title was sector (instrument), a very different instrument -- 70.51.46.146 (talk) 05:54, 17 September 2014 (UTC)
- Comment All sector mass spectrometers are not double focusing. A calutron for example is a sector instrument but is not a double-focusing mass spectrometer. Or this isotope ratio mass spectrometer.[1] I would support a move of sector instrument to sector mass spectrometer and an expansion of double-focusing mass spectrometer to include that specific kind of sector instrument. Only the former requires a move over redirect. --Kkmurray (talk) 14:51, 17 September 2014 (UTC)
