Cation redirects to ion so this should probably be reworded. (please removed this entry if you fix it).

Does anyone know what selenides are used for? H2Se is used for doping with selenium in semiconductors. ZnSe seems to be used in photoelectronics. RJFJR 02:47, Feb 5, 2005 (UTC)

The part of the article related to selenides' applications in phototherapy and quantum dots is misleading. It is true that selenide could be applied in this field; however, it is mainly used under laboratory conditions, as it is described in the indicated references. Besides selenide quantum dots, there is a variety of other quantum dots, and this application is more a scientific challenge than a practical application. However, one of the fields where selenide has a huge practical impact is solar cells, especially copper indium gallium selenide solar cells (CIGS). A short citation from a CIGS Wikipedia page: "CIGS is one of three mainstream thin-film photovoltaic (PV) technologies, the other two being cadmium telluride and amorphous silicon. Like these materials, CIGS layers are thin enough to be flexible, allowing them to be deposited on flexible substrates." In brief, it is one of the leading photovoltaic technologies, and it is a real practical application. This is way more important to mention in this article than other theoretically possible practical applications. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Technologasnano (talkcontribs) 20:55, 1 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Error in "Applications" segment

edit

In the "Applications" segment it says: "Quantum dots based on metal selenides have been extensively (?) for their distinctive spectral properties." I'm guessing it should say "extensively researched", but I'm not sure, so I don't want to edit it. Jonhelmererikb (talk) 12:53, 18 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
