Talk:Selenographic coordinate system

I disagree that this article needs help. It is complex, but necessarily so. RPellessier | (Talk) 09:24, 7 Feb 2005 (UTC)

I agree that it is a complex subject and by listing it as needing help I don't mean to imply that it is of poor quality. However I feel there must be some way making it more accessible to people who are not experts in this area. I am accustomed to reading technical articles and yet I still struggled to understand this one. I have read the article several times and still don't properly understand the information it is trying to convey, and neither did anyone else I showed it to (all of whom have science degrees of some variety). Perhaps some diagrams would help make this article easier to understand.Sonelle 10:26, 7 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Thank-you to RJHall for taking on this task - good work! Sonelle 23:49, 8 Feb 2005 (UTC)
I had a go at this to make it a little more comprehensible, but I'm not a deft hand at diagrams, so leave that to someone with more skill. ZorkFox 07:38, 28 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

- Highly technical, reuqires translation for laymen by someone familiar with the subject. (I wouldn't know where to start) Sonelle 14:10, 4 Feb 2005 (UTC)

For the co-ordinates of 'Mösting A' doesn't there need to be a implication of what compass direction the co-ordinates are? For example, 3°N, 45°W? I would put them in, but I don't know which directions those co-ordinates are for, and perhaps I am wrong to think that it works the same way as on Earth...? No mention of Libration

edit

The apparent prime meridian and selenogrpahic colongitudes would both be subject to variations relative to the physical surface of the Moon due to libration. The article would do well to say something about this.Pomona17 (talk) 13:56, 8 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

The article seems self-conflicting

The opening section makes it sound like the Mösting-A crater reference is universally accepted, whereas the "Longitude" section makes that unclear, and it is not at all clear how this relates to the "Mean Earth/polar axis system" that is supposedly recommended by IAU -- which is about as official as anything gets in this context.
