What should be added?
editThere should be a comparison between self-pollination and cross-pollination. What other flowers/plants use self-pollination? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jafox93 (talk • contribs) 19:12, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
- A lot of good information here. What is a legume? Mfarrell1 (talk) 13:42, 4 May 2012 (UTC)
Delete page and point at asexual reproduction page?
editStolen from Asexual_reproduction page, we have some more examples:
Plants
- Dandelion (reproduces asexually through apomixis)[1]
- Nihoa Carnation
- Toromiro[verification needed]

that page is much more extensive and seems to contain all the information that is here. So maybe this page should simply point at that page? Dean p foster (talk) 12:46, 22 July 2012 (UTC)
- Self pollination is not asexual reproduction - there is still fertilization going on. 82.108.130.2 (talk) 10:52, 16 August 2012 (UTC)
Confusing percentages
editParts of this article are confusing. 80% hermaphroditic and 5% monoecious? So what are the other 15% supposed to be or is it just assumed? Those also appear to be very imprecise figures.Johnhgagon (talk) 13:19, 21 May 2013 (UTC)
- Good point. The remainder would be dioecious. Changes made. Sminthopsis84 (talk) 14:11, 24 July 2015 (UTC)
Should be split into Self-fertility and Self-pollination
editI believe that this page should be split into 'Self-Fertility' and 'Self-pollination'. Self-fertility is used to describe when the pollen from the plant is able to be accepted by itself. This can mean that a vector, such as bees, is still required to transfer the pollen from the anther to the stigma. This is required when the anther is at a level which is too distant from the stigma to allow for the pollen to transfer at time of dehiscence. Self-pollination is then used to describe the ability of a flower to transfer the pollen from the anther to the stigma without requiring a vector, ie the pollen is close enough to make the 'leap' during dehiscence. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.245.175.223 (talk) 23:19, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
- Some work done. I think the basic pieces of material are around here somewhere so page splitting is probably not required, but they have been poorly linked together. Sminthopsis84 (talk) 15:09, 8 April 2016 (UTC)
