There seems to be a problem with the two infoboxes. The Laura Brannigan version claims the song was written by "Giancarlo Bigazzi, Steve Piccolo, Raffaele Riefoli" and the Infernal version mentions "Martine Clemenceau, Diane Warren". It is the same song, so which names are correct? --Maitch 13:43, 9 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

The original version comes from "Raffaele Riefoli", AKA "Raf", an italian singer and composer. His first song - Self Control - was in english.

From Wikipedia-ITA:

"Come Raf, inizia la sua carriera nel 1983 incidendo Self Control, un brano dance che scalerà le classifiche di mezzo mondo grazie anche alla versione dell'americana Laura Branigan"

en:

"As Raf, he starts his career in 1983 releasing Self Control, a dance song that will become an international hit also thanks to the version of the american singer Laura Branigan"

It looks clear that Laura Branigan's Self Control is a "cover" from Raf's version (base is identical).

The Laura Branigan song written by "Martine Clemenceau, Diane Warren" is Solitaire, so obviously 'Infernal' referenced the wrong songwriters in their version. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.49.32.196 (talk) 21:04, 4 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sharon Prabhakar version

edit

This recent article: http://www.asianage.com/india/how-rocking-world-rolled-india-60s-and-70s-725, indicates that there was a local cover of Self Control by Indian singer Sharon Prabhakar. I was hoping to get some details on this version such as the year of recording - probably 1982 but that can't be assumed - and if it's included on an album. I haven't been able to find any specifics on the Prabhakar version: can anyone provide them?--Cherrylimerickey (talk) 00:26, 15 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Request for sources

edit

Could anyone please add reliable sources for the statements in the final sentences of the opening paragraph and the section that discusses Laura Branigan's 2004 release of the song? I chose not to add unsourced tags or remove the material from the article, but there's nothing in this article that backs up these claims, not even anything from Laura Branigan's article. Section mishmash

edit

We have a discussion of the composition of the song in a subsection about a cover version. Also seems to be somewhat speculative, but at a minimum should be better consolidated. 109.255.211.6 (talk) 19:22, 9 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Suggestion to remove the Italo Disco genre from Laura Branigan's version

edit

I would like to ask an editor if they could remove the Italo disco genre from the infobox of Laura Branigan's version of Self Control, as the source (questionable, by the way) that supposedly supports the information that Laura's version is Italo Disco can be considered by Wikipedia rules as original research, which is not based on any secondary source. And nowhere on the internet is Self Control mentioned as Italo Disco.

I suggest replacing it with Post-disco. 2804:2424:8300:189D:A4CF:8871:9268:CABF (talk) 18:08, 12 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
