I had thought of entering a brief statement that as an early center of learning in Norway the Selje monastery was something of a "bishops' nursery", i.e., many of its monks later became bishops. I believe the term comes from Wilson's book on the history of the medieval Church of Norway. I read the book over twenty years ago at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, MN and it even formed the basis for a speech I gave to a Sons of Norway group on the medieval Church of Norway, but I have neither Wilson's book nor my lecture notes at my desposal at present. I quite pleased to finally see pictures of the Selje monastery here as well as on the Google Map.67.52.199.50 (talk) 06:20, 20 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
