editSelvage is equally significant to crochet and means basically the same thing. DurovaCharge! 06:15, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Durova! :)
- First, it's so nice to meet you and let me say how thankful I am that you're sprucing up all these knitting articles. I kind of lost my enthusiasm for them since it didn't seem as though anyone else was interested in them... :(
- I'm fine with folding crochet (and weaving) into this article, but I worry about losing focus because the techniques involved for securing the edge are so different from one another. My plan had been to list the various techniques commonly used by knitters, using the June Hemmons Hiatt reference augmented maybe by Montse Stanley's nice discussion, as well as the various types of ornamentations (picots, crochet edges, holes threaded with ribbon, etc.), perhaps citing some choice examples from Nicky Epstein's works.
- I'm hoping that someone gives me a camera for Christmas, so that I can start taking pictures to illustrate the various techniques and fabrics, but it's a big gift and I might be disappointed on that score. We'll see! :) Thanks again, Willow (talk) 11:44, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks, Willow. I realized a month or so ago that it was time to rekindle interest in the textile arts WikiProject. There had been a good core of volunteers in the spring and summer, but for some reason most of them dropped away. So I've been doing some general maintenance work and writing new articles for DYK to spark more interest. So you think it would be better to have three different articles for selvage? It could go either way, I suppose. I created an article today called stitch marker (crochet) because the device really is different between knitting and crochet. Perhaps a friendly request for comment could help settle this? Sometimes it's a challenge to know where to draw the line between similar terminology and distinct concepts across different textile arts. DurovaCharge! 20:53, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
