Coordinates in title?

edit

What, exactly, do the coordinates in the title refer to? The article does not mention any dedicated venue for the festival, like the "Seminici Theatre", or whatever. If the festival is held in the same building every year, but that building also has significant other uses, then it might deserve its own article. And such an article would be the logical place to tag with geographical coordinates. Hqb 19:54, 30 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

The main venue for the Festival is the Calderon Theatre. It is used for other plays through the year. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.183.253.249 (talk) 18:27, 9 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Is there some reason why this isn't named "Valladolid International Film Festival"...

edit

Is there some reason why this isn't named "Valladolid International Film Festival"? While the Toronto International Film Festival is locallly known as "TIFF", the article is at Toronto International Film Festival.

Is Seminci some kind of acronym? The article doesn't say so. Since this is the English language wikipedia, shouldn't article names generally be in English? Geo Swan (talk) 22:43, 16 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

The festival is popularly known as Seminici and refers to itself as Seminci. The festival website, for example, is at seminci.es. The advertising and branding uses Seminci. It is known as Seminici in press coverage. Since it is a Spanish festival, it was formally known as "Semana Internacional de Cine de Valladolid" not as any of the possible English transliterations (all of which are already redirects). I don't see the problem. Mo Billings (talk) 13:36, 27 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • Moved to Valladolid International Film Festival as per nom suggested. It is thhe official name of the event in English as per website stats. 114.125.252.207 (talk) 04:28, 5 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • Move to Valladolid International Film Festival per nom. There are a number of reasons why this makes sense. (1) per WP:NCACRO we should only use an acronym if "the subject is known primarily by its abbreviation". While the name "Seminci" appears in some sources, there are also lots of English sources that don't use the term at all: [1][2]. It doesn't seem like it even rises to WP:COMMONNAME, the spelled out English title is just as common. Even pages on the official website seem to use the term "Valladolid International Film Festival" in the first reference, only falling back on "Seminci" afterwards: [3]. (2) as the nom points out, the Toronto International Film Festival is often known as "TIFF", but our article uses the spelled out version. So there's a WP:CONSISTENCY argument here as well.
