Sri Lanka or Kandy?
editI was about to link material to this article, when I noticed that the title used "Senarat of Sri Lanka" rather than "Senarat of Kandy". Rather than undertake a move in title myself, I'd rather canvass some opinions first. I've never seen Kings of Kandy referred to as "Kings of Sri Lanka". Indeed, I have never heard of any king of Sri Lanka in the modern era. Sri Lanka was not unified for eons. It contained several independent kingdoms (Kotte, Sitawaka, Jaffna, Kandy). Kandy was not even nominally suzerain (if anything, Kotte was, Kandy was a breakaway).
True, as it happens, during the reign of Senarat of Kandy, Kotte and Sitawaka had come under Portuguese vassalship, but Jaffna was still independent for a good part of the reign, and Senarat never ruled more than only the Kandy part of the island (and sometimes not even that). To my knoweldge, although fought the Portuguese pretty incessantly, he never claimed dominion over the whole island (to my knowledge).
On the other hand, this article List of Sri Lankan monarchs seems to place all the kings of all the different Sri Lankan kingdoms in one place, which makes me fear treading on any sensitive toes with a change from 'Sri Lanka' to 'Kandy'. Walrasiad (talk) 07:21, 25 October 2010 (UTC)
