A photo of a horse hitched a serge would help put the topic into context visually. Photos of serges with horses hitched to them aren't hard to find online, but unfortunately none have yet been donated to the Wikimedia Commons. The existing photos make them appear as isolated monuments, almost like sculptures or memorials.
