Where's the line on promotional content for restaurant articles?

It seems to me that listing their menu is promotional content. Menus change over time, and very, very few have lasting impact on anything. When I've hunted up references in discussion boards to restaurants that ceased to exist decades ago, what people remember are the life milestones that took them there: birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, marriage proposals, etc. No one really mentions the food. However, listing the menu makes the Wikipedia article seem a lot like a Yelp review, minus the stars.

The same thing goes for reviews of food by local reviewers. Not even Michelin stars are trustworthy anymore because they're pretty much up for sale now.

So, why carry current menus and local reviews, if not to promote the restaurant? Oona Wikiwalker (talk) 21:12, 17 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
