History & Club Crest Information
editSetanta Berlin was founded by Colin Manning in 2014, following a number of efforts Colin made to start GAA activity in Berlin starting in 2012. As a result of a split, Berlin has two GAA clubs, Berlin GAA and Setanta Berlin GAA, both clubs originated from the group Colin assembled, and split into two groups due to differences in approach to club development.
The official club crest (emblem) was designed by Colin Manning, and is based on the Berlin city emblem and colours, showing the Berlin Bear holding a Hurley and kicking a Gaelic football. Later an Irish harp was added to reflect the role the club was playing in the Irish music and cultural scene in the German capital city. There have been a number of minor tweaks since the original design, but is largely the same today as the original version.
Colin Manning left the club in 2019, and is no longer involved in GAA activities in Berlin, but continues to run hurling and Gaelic football sports lessons at Berlin schools.
