Merger proposal

edit

I propose to merge this article with Lagoa das Sete Cidades, because both articles deal with the same subject. - Nmnogueira (talk) 13:05, 2 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

The "Lagoa" article should not be merged with the the Sete Cidades article since they conform to two different subjects completely. The "Lagoa" article refers to the geographic structures, including specifically the dual-lakes, volcano and wider geomorpholocial structure (the Sete Cidades Massif), while the "Sete Cidades" article refers primarily to the legal administrative entity (the civil parish of Sete Cidades). One (the "Lagoas" article) is a physical range of volcanic and geological structures that extend beyond the administrative boundaries of the civil parish article. I would be more in favour of renaming and redirecting the subject of the "Lagoa" article to comply specifically to the "Sete Cidades Massif" the physical feature, of which, the "Lagoa" is one part. On the main page of the "São Miguel Island" article I have expanded on the geomorphological structures of the island (in a resumed fashion) and a redirected focus of the materials in the "Lagoa" article would best resolve the distinction issue. The name "Lagoa das Sete Cidades" should be modified to "Sete Cidades Massif" and "touristy" links associated with the subject should be redirected. These suggestions conform to the information that pertains to the subject as spelled-out by the Centre for Volcanology at the University of the Azores (the technical body associated with geography/geology on the islands of the Azores). I should make note of the fact, that this type of distinction (that of physical feature versus administrative feature) has been utilized in the past for other feature discussed in Wikipedia. Also, the article conforms to the greater Wikipedia:WikiProject Volcanoes and Wikipedia:WikiProject Lakes, both subgroups that are about physical geography of which the article on the civil parish does not conform. Ruben J.C. Furtado (talk contribs) 9:29, 4 March 2010 (UTC-1)
