editI checked for plagiarism in the article and found some from the source "cholera". I rewrote the section and aded citations to the article. I then added 3 new sources for content on how this strain of cholera affected Latin America. I added a reflist. I reworded some portions that had awkward phrasing. Move discussion in progress
editThere is a move discussion in progress on Talk:First cholera pandemic (1817–24) which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —RMCD bot 07:30, 26 January 2016 (UTC)

edit...which, in its turn, references the non-existent webpage (ref.5 in the essay) which just 'might', judging by its title, link (back) to Wikipedia's article on cholera. However, the whole issue of suppressing information on cholera outbreak in USSR in 1960s-1970s hangs on this reference. Editors might want to clear that (I won't, sorry). I have added the sections 'introduction', 'source', 'spread and mortality' and 'research'. I did not delete the previous contributions to this article, rather integrated it into the information i have added. Rosebud06 (talk) 04:12, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
The article should be renamed, as the title is either incorrect or does not respect NPOV
editThis academic article "origins of the current seventh cholera pandemic" (doi/10.1073/pnas.1608732113) says the pandemic was still ongoing in 2016, so the current title is either incorrect, or does not respect NPOV if the pandemic end date is a matter of debate. I think it should be renamed into "seventh cholera pandemic" or something like that, but I can't do it myself. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 37.166.58.247 (talk) 09:04, 22 July 2022 (UTC)
- By the way, this cholera pandemic is mentioned in the article pandemic as an example of an ongoing pandemic. So either the pandemic article is incorrect, or this one is incorrect, but both can't be correct at the same time. I think this is a case of NPOV violation. 37.166.58.247 (talk) 09:10, 22 July 2022 (UTC)

1961–1975 cholera pandemic → Seventh cholera pandemic – It's controversial if this pandemic actually ended or not. For example the WHO's position on the subject is that the pandemic is still ongoing. Other wikipedia articles (pandemic, history of cholera) mention it as an ongoing pandemic. The current title reflects only one point of view of the subject, and should be renamed accordindly, without taking sides. I don't know why, but mediawiki doesn't allow me to insert external links, so I can't link references, but some can be very easily found with a google search, e.g. look for "who cholera pandemic", or look for the academic reference I give in another section of the article discussion page. 37.166.98.34 (talk) 09:36, 25 July 2022 (UTC) — Relisting. — Ceso femmuin mbolgaig mbung, mellohi! - Agree with view that it has not ended, but suggest title of Seventh cholera pandemic (1961-present) to indicate when it is believed to have started.Parkwells (talk) 15:57, 26 July 2022 (UTC)
- Sounds like a perfectly good solution to me! Thanks. 37.173.150.65 (talk) 18:55, 26 July 2022 (UTC)
- Move to Seventh cholera pandemic as suggested per COMMONNAME. That it is considered ongoing should be stated in the lede, but I don't think including it in the title is an improvement. Regards. Draken Bowser (talk) 14:32, 29 July 2022 (UTC)
- Relister comment There is consensus to change to at least Seventh cholera pandemic, but no consensus on whether the date of the pandemic should be added too. — Ceso femmuin mbolgaig mbung, mellohi! (投稿) 04:06, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
- Support Seventh cholera pandemic, which appears to be the common name. Since that title is unambiguous, there's no need to add a parenthetical, per WP:CONCISE etc. Extraordinary Writ (talk) 03:46, 9 August 2022 (UTC)
POV problem
editI stumbled upon the following sentence, which does not respect Wikipedia:Neutral point of view: "The ongoing seventh pandemic has affirmed that cholera is still prevalent in society and can cause high mortality.". It is disputed if it's still an ongoing pandemic or not, as mentioned in a previous discussion. There are probably other sections or paragraphs like that in the article, so it might need some global rewriting. In the meantime, I'll add the "Disputed inline" template to the sentence I mentioned. 85.169.195.108 (talk) 22:58, 27 December 2022 (UTC)
- RS seems pretty unanimous it's ongoing. Bon courage (talk) 10:37, 23 March 2024 (UTC)
