Rename to Sha`ban
editPer MOS-Ar. Because of the strict transliteration as seen on the AH page (Sha‘bān), the preferred standard transliteration should be Sha`ban. Additionally, googling "Sha'aban" and "Sha`ban", results in 155k and 389k hits respectively, favouring the latter spelling. I also know that in Indonesian/Malay, the month's name is pronounced in two syllables (i.e. Sha`ban, although written Syaban/Sya'ban); not sure about the Arab way, but I assume it's the same, considering the strict transliteration. My point is: the second "a" has to go. - HyperGaruda (talk) 10:10, 12 September 2015 (UTC)
- I agree. The Islamic month names on WP should be based (as far as possible) on those given in the main page dealing with the Islamic calendar. AstroLynx (talk) 12:04, 12 September 2015 (UTC)
- I notice that navbox {{IslamicMonths}} has "Sha'ban", but infobox {{muslimmonths}} has "Sha'aban". Pelagic (talk) 15:54, 23 September 2015 (UTC)
- I know. The Sha'aban/Sha`ban issue was the reason for discussing the straight apostrophe vs grave accent on MOSAR. After a revert of my initial move to Sha`ban, I did not dare to make further adjustments until the conventions were updated. - HyperGaruda (talk) 16:39, 23 September 2015 (UTC)
- See WP:TSC policy. Needs a WP:RM to do otherwise. --Francis Schonken (talk) 04:16, 24 October 2020 (UTC)
Template
edit@AstroLynx: This is currently the only Hijri month page that's missing the template. It's useful for navigation and should be consistent with other pages. It is a bit cluttered with both the list of months and infobox, so perhaps the list of months could be left out, keeping it similar to the Hebrew month pages, with the category template at the bottom filling its role for navigation. I would personally prefer to have the month list at the top though. Perhaps it could be arranged horizontally like in the pages for Gregorian months? That would take up less space at least. - I would not object if a list of months template is added to the top-right, similar to that in the Hebrew month pages. An infobox, however, adds little to what is already mentioned, it takes up a disproportional amount of space and (in my opinion) just looks ugly. AstroLynx (talk) 18:52, 31 December 2021 (UTC)
