Mousing

I merged the mousing section into safety wire because its discussion is more suitable there. Mousing is discussed in clevis pin and here, and really are discussing the same application of mousing wire, so I didn't want to duplicate the information, so merging it into safety wire made a lot of sense. If the merge stands then both this article and clevis pin can link to it and the topic can easily be manage in one article.

As for the galvanic corrosion thing, that's a very specific example that occurs in lots of situations, not just with mousing wire, therefore I don't see why a whole section is necessary. If this section is to stand then a subsection for galvanic corrosion should be created for the clevis pin, split pin, screw, rivet, cotter pin, nut, r-clip, etc. Wizard191 (talk) 18:18, 29 March 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, but you left this article without any mention of the two topics (safety wire or galvanic corrosion) and no links to main articles on either. Per WP:SPINOUT, when an an article becomes too big, it is appropriate to take out large sections and replace them with summaries and links to main articles. This article is very small even with these two short sections (6.2KB, when we normally start to worry about article size around 30 - 50 KB (WP:SIZE)) and these two topics are, as I said in the edit summary, fairly central to marine applications, where use of shackles dominates. The emphasis placed on secondary things like safety wires and corrosion is quite different in general engineering, where designers make decisions and production is done according to their drawings: on a boat everyday sailors make decisions like these all the time and the safety of all, including that of the boat, can depend on the long and short term outcomes. Wikipedia is WP:NOTPAPER and the urge to make everything neat and tidy should not override making the information that we have available to readers. --Nigelj (talk) 19:05, 29 March 2010 (UTC)

I was going to go back and add a one or two sentence summary about mousing that linked to the section I merged into safety wire, but you had already reverted me. This is not a case of WP:SPINOUT, but a case of organization and where it makes sense to discuss the main topic. You are saying mousing should be discussed here, I'm saying it should be in safety wire. The reason is because there is equal weight to have it here or clevis pin, but in my opinion even greater weight to have it in safety wire, as mousing is a direct use of safety wire that can be used on a shackle or a clevis pin.

As for the galvanic corrosion argument, I feel that you are putting way too much undue weight on marine applications. Shackles are used in lots of non-marine applications, therefore one sentence with a link to galvanic corrosion would work perfectly. Wizard191 (talk) 19:48, 29 March 2010 (UTC)
