I think that death is not the only significant aspect about him; directing a song critiquing and mocking the Egyptian president under a tightly held dictatorship, getting detained for it in the first place, being held illegally after the 2 years of pretrial temporary confinement stipulated by law has expired, and finally being denied medical attention against the cries of his inmates are all contributing aspects to his notability. I agree that the most notable part was his death, which triggered international attention, but I believe his notability started with the song, as evidenced by the regional attention back then. --Ahmed M Farrag (talk) 14:24, 4 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
His pre-death notability wasn't enough of itself to create a WP article, as sadly, we have over 100,000 detainees with stories much similar to Shady. Like, for example, a guy getting detained for holding a sign that simply says "No" during an ongoing referendum. I'm just trying to establish that he had some notability pre-death, at least in human rights circles, like here for instance, and here and here in Arabic. --Ahmed M Farrag (talk) 14:04, 5 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
