reason to keep it

It is true that his reputation in language movement is hard to find. But I think his death is significant in many ways. On February 22,the day Sofiur died is really important. Because on this day more activity and agitation took place across the country. It is also believed that a lot of people died on that day. This claim could also be found in the government press release. Unlike thier habit of completely partial about what happened they said they killed several people. But any identity about any of them was not found. In that case Sofiur's identity stands as an evidence of what happened on that day. He is also mentioned as 'Martyr' in his epitaph. His death is also regarded in many places as a 'supreme sacrifice'. His death place and the whole incident is importantly mentioned in one of the best books of language movement "Bhasha Andoloner Itihash". removing the tag

I remove the tag not to show any disrespect to whom who added it. I just want to give it(deletion idea) a thought. Please ask here why exactly you want to delete this. Sofiur's death may be very simple but it is also a mark about what happened.Tarif Ezaz Bangladesh 16:28, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

Ekushey Padak date

I am really fairly certain that he did not receive the Ekushey Padak award in 2000; I know that is what it says in the Banglapedia bio, but I think that is wrong; a number of sources online - including the Banglapedia article on "National awards" - have a list of 4 martyrs who received the award in 2000, and he is not one of them. On the other hand, the article in your national news service on the 2005 ceremony (linked in article) seems to have him being given the award in 2005. I know there are a lot of people with similar names, but are there 2 martyrs with such similar names? Anyways, I would advise finding a reliable list of recipients or some other good reference before changing the date back to 2000. --Brianyoumans 09:04, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

Rewrite

I have rewritten much of this, using the Banglapedia article as a guide when I couldn't figure out what the text here meant. Hopefully this will satisfy the editor who added the cleanup tag! Misspelled Link

The link and the page contents use the name as Sofiur Rahman, where as the name used by the person is Shafiur Rahman. I wish wikipedia will correct it for the memory of this great martyr of the nation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Raisrulez (talk • contribs) 19:06, 20 February 2013 (UTC)

• Looking online, the name seems to be transliterated from Bengali in various ways - Safiur, Shafiur, Sofiur. Are there any references as to how Rahman himself spelled his name in English? Or how the Bangladeshi government transliterates it? I would be happy to move the article if there is good reason to do so.Brianyoumans (talk) 01:44, 21 February 2013 (UTC)
  • Banglapedia is the considered as the official & authorized by the government of Bangladesh which describesShafiur Rahman the name as indicated. As for the spelling concerned, the name is tradtionally written the same way as well. Thank you. raisrulez (talk)
