Place of birth

edit

there is nothing proves she was born in Jerusalem. the reference is incorrect and doesnt have any relative information to her place of birth. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.15.145.248 (talk) 06:15, 4 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

should it be pe'er?

edit

Seeing how it's in Hebrew, I don't know if there are guidelines for the translation of the name to English. Wouldn't it be more appropriate for it to be called Shahar Peer and have an explanation of how it's pronounced (IPA)? An example you could compare this to would be the Haaretz article which should actually be pronounce Ha'aretz. Yonatanh 13:43, 26 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I was confused by the spelling "Peer," which matches a monosyllabic English word, Unlike "Haaretz," which would be pronounced closely enough, even without an apostrophe to mark the syllable break. I say keep it as "Pe'er". Alansohn 03:23, 29 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
Her official website spells her last name "Peer." Whatever problems individuals have with the pronunciation aspect, that's how she spells itin the 'romanized' form.Haberstr (talk) 19:08, 19 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Nothing more than results and statistics

edit

This article has not much more than results and statistics.

Perhaps we need to included inforamtion about the protests against her in Auckland last year and this year? 122.57.246.192 (talk) 08:13, 5 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

According to the news media that reported this there were between 12-20 people. Calling this a "protest" or a "controversy" would riddle Wikipedia with every small dispute any person has been involved in. It is unwarranted under WP:UNDUE.

Ranking Breakdown

edit

Unlike the ATP site for mens tennis, the WTA official site does not have a ranking breakdown page. Since I was interested on following Pe'ers and her possibility to advance from week to week I built the breakdown myself following her "players activity" in accordance with the WTA ranking rules. The ranking breakdown can be viewed by following this link. Anybody interested in helping me update the table by sharing with them the relevant Google doc, let me know through my page.Eranus (talk) 13:26, 9 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

dashes

edit

What's going with the "6-2", "6 – 2" revisions & reverts? Gerardw (talk) 13:04, 19 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

WP:DASH says to use en-dash, not hyphen, so the script I run changes hyphens to en-dashes, and changes the code (the –) for spaced en-dashes to regular unspaced en-dashes. The Rambling Man (talk) 13:09, 19 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
It says to use the dash for a range of numbers. 6 to 2 is a score, not a range, right? Gerardw (talk) 13:42, 19 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
No, this comes under the "versus" bit of the guideline. In other words, 6 versus 2 should be written 6–2. It's commonplace across most of the sports articles in Wikipedia now. The Rambling Man (talk) 13:43, 19 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
Yes, it couldn't be more clear: "To stand for to or versus (male–female ratio, 4–3 win, Lincoln–Douglas debate, France–Germany border)". The "4–3 win" is directly on point. --AussieLegend (talk) 14:10, 19 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
Oops, didn't notice the second entry. Makes sense, thanks. Gerardw (talk) 15:21, 19 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
