Name definition

edit

I've deleted the following paragraph in the trivia section.

Shampoo, like most of the important characters of Ranma 1/2, is an example of theme naming, with multiple meanings for her name. Her real name is "Xian Pu", the 'xi' sound in Mandarin Chinese being pronounced 'sh'. Xian Pu sounds much like 'shampoo', so the nickname fits. Broken into its seperate components (commonly written as "Xian" and "Pu"), it can mean "stagger", "loneliness", "coral" and "uncut/unpolished gem". Put together, its meanings (beyond the ubiqitous "hair care product") include "mountain girl", "exotic massage" and "she whose breasts are like mountains".[citation needed]
I believe it is also unecessary, but lately somebody who has been editing this pages thinks that adding unecessary information or filling the info boxes with all he/se can think about is actually helping. I'm not surprised to see the text you deleted is already back on the page.

In Chinese Pinyin, her name should be "shan pu". "shan"(珊) means coral, and "pu"(璞) means jade or uncarved jade. The other meanings mentioned in the deleted text are actually those of other Chinese characters with the same pronunciations. --Took 02:03, 3 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Royalty?

edit

I was wondering what people's opinions are on whether or not the amazon village lives in royalty, and if so, since Shampoo is Cologne's granddaughter, wouldn't that make her a princess? I'm also curious, what happened to Shampoo's mother/father and through which is Cologne her grandmother? Tyciol 07:27, 27 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Just one note, Mint is not in love with Shampoo, he's just thrilled that she talks to him and agrees to be his friend.

I can only speculate on the first part, but, my guess would be no...Cologne's title is village elder, but, that can mean that shes a member of a council that runs, or advises the village, and not necessarily royalty.

As for the second part, one can assume Shampoo's mother is probably dead , however, that bearded Chinese man in sunglasses who cooks at the Nekohaten ( or Cat Cafe )is Shampoo's father, he's seen yelling "My daughter!!" in the flashback where Shampoo falls into the cursed spring.

Anime Ukyo/Shampoo battle.

edit

Apparently I misremembered this myself a bit, I'm guessing due to all the other battles, they kind of blur together. In the battle, the conflict starts earlier in the day at the school when Shampoo shows up to try and get Ranma on a date and Ukyo interferes. They apparently, after this, got into a full fight (Ukyo getting changed into her normal outfit and gear and being armed, while Shampoo remained in a gym uniform and no indications she used her bonbori) and fought for several hours (said in dialog). Both are exhausted by this point (Ukyo leaning over onto her battle spatula and breathing heavy, Shampoo likewise breathing heavy) and both appear to be near the point of calling it a draw. Ranma, under the influence of the bandage, arrives, briefly ending the fight. The two end up arguing over him again, then restart the duel. Ukyo just as the duel restarts looks at Ranma and says she will take care of Shampoo, but Shampoo uses this distraction to throw some forks at her, pinning her to a tree. It is a moment of distraction but I wouldn't really call it a mark of discipline though on Shampoo's part, it is too limited of a showing for that conclusion.

As to Mon Lon, a little while after Shampoo and Mon Lon are left to fight, Ranma is at the last gate when all the characters coming running by (running down the guardian in the process). Mousse is among these and is running by with Mon Lon in his arms who appears to be out of it and is calling her Shampoo. Shampoo chases him, apparently unhurt. Ok, then the current version of the inserts seems factual enough. I'll just clarify that Shampoo did a sucker-attack on Ukyo while she was talking to Ranma, and that will be that. Although I'm not sure if referencing the Kiima headlock is valid, since both she and Shampoo are completely focused on watching the Saffron/Ranma battle at the time, and we never saw her use the thousand wings attack, which basically was the only thing that made Kiima particularly dangerous in combat. This article sucks, and needs so much work. I will try to fix it up and add sources as soon as I can. - Raziel  teatime  19:07, 15 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
