editI find the information about the Shaybah oilfield inaccurate. It seems odd that it says the field was only discovered in 1998 as I worked for Aramco Equipment Services in 1977/8 and made numerous flights from Dhahran to Shaybah as a Senior Electrical Specialist in support of the well head maintenance team. All equipment and materials was brought by road along the Shaybah trail(a sand trail) which was maintained by a mobile team using mobile camps that I also visited to repair equipment. The existing well heads were sealed in autumn of 1978 in preparation for the temporary abandoning of Shaybah as the oil price had collapsed. I still have some photographs of the original well head maintenance camp and F27 aircraft landing on the desert Sabkha.

Merge?
editThis article has the same topic as Shaybah. As Shaybah seems not only to be an oil field, but also a place where people live (ru:Шейба), I propose to merge here. → «« Man77 »» 07:57, 1 October 2019 (UTC)
- I agree. --Patriccck (talk) 12:49, 3 November 2019 (UTC)
support as both seem to talk about the same thing. Should be called Shaybah Oil Field though as to determine what it is. Shaybah is just a name which could be common. Primdena (talk) 16:06, 2 February 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose seems like a notable oil field in itself.--SharʿabSalam▼ (talk) 13:46, 12 March 2020 (UTC)
- I've modified the lede of both to distinguish more clearly between the two; I'm fairly neutral of the merge, but on balance I think that with the lede changes I've made the articles could exist separately. Klbrain (talk) 15:52, 14 June 2020 (UTC)
Discovery of Shaybah Field.
editI'm am pretty sure that Shaybah was discovered in 1968,not 1998, as part of an exploratory program that occurred in the late 60's. It was thought to be primarily as gas field as delineation drilling was not done until the Royal gas initiative of 1996 (est). The Saudi Aramco Management wanted to take credit for the oil discovery so they called the oil discovery 1998, the same year oil development began. The true discovery date is still 1968. I would call 1998 the "political" discovery date. 2001:16A2:7ACF:A700:E1D6:E864:C4A9:5F1D (talk) 05:47, 25 January 2022 (UTC)
