Permission to update "Early Life" section"
editWent through several interviews, articles, and editorials. Would it be okay if I updated the section to this?
Shemia Fagan was born on September 20, 1981 in Dufur, Oregon. She lived in both Dufur and The Dalles during her childhood and was raised primarily by her father, John Frank Fagan. During her adolescence, she occasionally visited her mother in East Portland. Throughout her professional political career, Fagan has been candid regarding the situation involving her mother whom she states has previously struggled with drug addiction and homelessness.[1] Her paternal grandmother, Imogene Fagan worked at a shipyard during World War II, who later owned a small business and was the mayor of a rural Colorado town.
Fagan was raised in a household that she considered was "staunchly conservative" and religious. Fagan's father struggled income-wise which lead to moments of housing insecurity for Fagan and her two brothers. [2] While attending Dufur Elementary School she took up chess in an after-school program and became one of Oregon's Scholastic Chess Champions.[3] She is a graduate of The Dalles High School where she was a member of the schools soccer, basketball, and track teams.[4]
Fagan is a graduate of Northwest Nazarene University, where she earned a bachelors in religion and philosphy. She attended Willamette University College of Law in Salem, Oregon briefly before enrolling in the Lewis & Clark Law School where she graduated cum laude[5], earning her Juris Doctor in 2009. Between her time at law school and beginning her pratice she worked as a high school teacher and volunteered in schools across the region, educating students on the basics of the judicial system. [6]
After a stint as a high school teacher and working in pro bono legal work Fagan became an associate with Ater Wynne in Portland.[7]

- Thank you for starting a discussion on the talk page instead of inserting the material. The main problem I see with your proposed text – specifically the first two paragraphs – is that it reads like campaign material. Information about her father's drug addiction is not relevant. Her grandfather's military service is not relevant. Her history as an elementary school chess champion is not relevant. The material you're proposing violates WP:NPOV, and appears strikingly similar to the material added by another user here. KidAd talk 07:22, 15 October 2020 (UTC)

- @KidAd Haven't seen what the other user proposed, and I'm just basing the information off of what other politician pages do. In the Hillary Clinton page it states "As a child, Rodham was a favorite student among her teachers at the public schools she attended in Park Ridge." Also " Her father, Hugh Rodham, was of English and Welsh descent,[7] and managed a small but successful textile business, which he had founded."? I'm unsure where you're getting this "not relevant" cause on the basis of campaign material and violation of WP:NPOV whenever other articles (that are sourced) provide detailed information about these individuals. Also, it's as if you didn't read the article (or simply just skimmed over it) because it never said anything about her father's drug addiction or grandfather's military service? Is there someone you can refer to who can have a more impartial viewpoint and is willing to expand this page? Hoosier24 (talk) 16:11, 15 October 2020 (UTC)
Also I'm unsure why you removed the endorsements but ALSO the Chamber of Commerce rating? Unsure why we aren't allowed to provide information on the special interests that are behind a candidate? Here is Trey Hollingsworth page, with the ACU rating. Are we allowed to just provide the ratings or not, unsure how your method of editing is in any way consistent whenever you delete some ratings and not others (OLCV)? - The pages of random politicians are not relevant here per WP:OTHERSTUFF. You have not addressed the issue of inserting campaign material. into the article. KidAd talk 17:00, 15 October 2020 (UTC)
- What Campaign material? That she has a 27% rating from the Chamber of Commerce? You haven't addressed your issue of deleting some ratings and not others. Also to imply WP:OTHERSTUFF is nonsensical considering we should have a uniform standard of inserting relevant information that is sourced? In no manner have I included WP:PROMO material? Just placing the background of the candidate is now promotional campaign material? Saying where she went to high school? Hoosier24 (talk) 17:14, 15 October 2020 (UTC)
- I'm basing my comments on the proposed paragraphs you provided on this talk page. Extraneous information about her grandparents and chess career and better suited for a campaign website. It doesn't belong on the page. KidAd talk 17:22, 15 October 2020 (UTC)
- Please cite the extraneous information clause? What constitutes what belongs on a page and does not on the basis that this is an impartial and sourced outline of the individual's early life. Do we need to know that Todd Young " attended public schools and won a state soccer championship" or is this not seen as excessive because he is a Senator? Missing electoral info
editThis is missing some of her electoral results, particularly the Senate primary challenge against Rod Monroe. Karichisholm (talk) 21:58, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
- Correction, it's missing those results in tabular form, though it's listed up above. The whole thing needs cleaning up. Karichisholm (talk) 22:01, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
