Old location
editWhere in Cairo was it located? What occupies its location currently? Brutannica (talk) 23:01, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
- The place of the old hotel was in the Cairo quarter of Tawfiqiya, northwest of Azbakiya/Ezbekiya gardens at 30.05446, 31.24648, south of the Victoria hotel and north of the Continental hotel. The building of the Continental hotel is existent but not longer used as a hotel. Victoria hotel is used until now as a hotel. The Shepheard's Hotel burned down in 1952 was never re-erected at this place. About 15 years ago a building of the Central Bank of Egypt was erected at the site of the former hotel. --RolandUnger (talk) 07:47, 19 September 2018 (UTC)
Two different hotels
editIn the article two hotels are mixed: the Shepheard's Hotel burned down at the great Cairo fire in 1952 and the Shepheard Hotel in the Garden City. Both hotels differ in name, owner and place. I am not really sure if the new hotel was intended as a real successor of the old Shepheard's Hotel because of political differences between Egypt and UK. Most of the article and the figures belong to the old hotel. --RolandUnger (talk) 07:47, 19 September 2018 (UTC)
