Origin of Breed

The article states the cattle are "from" Shetland. Even if you ignoe the fatc that cattle aren't even from Europe, there is still logically no way that cows could be from Shetland. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_domesticated_animals 217.171.129.71 (talk) 09:02, 17 July 2011 (UTC)

If a distinct type arises in a particular location (whether it evolves or is bred there) then it seems reasonable to say that it is 'from' that location. Boxersoft (talk) 14:26, 5 August 2011 (UTC)

Title of Heading

The article redirects from 'Shetland Cattle' to 'Shetland (cattle)'. It should perhaps really be 'Shetland cattle'? The brackets are an odd addition.217.171.129.71 (talk) 09:07, 17 July 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for working on this, TheMagikCow. :) Rewrites need to be done in the linked "temporary" space when an article is blanked, as the rewrites are evaluated before implementation. One of the reasons for this is that it is far too easy to create a derivative work if rewriting is not done completely. For instance, we were left with the following:

The turning point must have been around 1850 when a shipping line was established and with it came the opportunity to export cattle. Immediately, the mainland market dictated the biggest animals fetched the best prices and as boats sailed to the mainland with fat stock, they returned with bulls from mainland breeds, Crofters quickly found that a Shetland cow put to a bigger beef breed produced a calf that grew rapidly and larger than pure bred Shetlands.

This sharp fall was due to the establishment of a shipping line around 1850, thereby allowing the exportation of cattle. Immediately, the mainland market dictated that the biggest animals fetched the best prices and as boats sailed to the mainland with fat stock, they returned with bulls from mainland breeds.
