Other US model basins

I believe there are smaller basins at Stevens Institute of Technology(SIT), the United States Naval Academy, the Krylov Institute (Russia) and Webb Institute.--Billymac00 (talk) 03:10, 29 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Parrafine or Parrafin

edit

Not sure whether this is meant to be parrafine or parrafin? "Workshops: Ship model basins manufacture their ship models from wood or parrafine with a computerized milling machine." Kaiza96 (talk) 05:07, 30 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Apparently neither; the correct term appears to be Paraffin, "HISTORIC MECHANICAL ENGINEERING LANDMARK David Taylor Model Basin" (PDF). THE AMERICAN SOCIETY OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERS. 1998. Retrieved 2011-01-23. Taylor insisted on using wooden models for his tests rather than the inexpensive paraffin ones used by other naval engineers. Usually made of white pine, his models were far more resistant to warping .... {{cite web}}: Cite has empty unknown parameter: |coauthors= (help). SBaker43 (talk) 10:55, 23 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
