There is no question that the village was around at the time of the Domesday Book, but when you put it in the OpenDomesday website search, it comes back with no entry, though refers you to the Phillimore translation, hence my slightly vague referenced entry. When you look at the images of the relevant extracts on the site, my untrained eye can't make out any entry that looks like Shipton or its old name of Hipton. The original text was unreferenced but more certain in its tone than it is mentioned in the DB. Has anyone got a definitive, referenced, answer? Rimmer1993 (talk) 21:44, 9 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
