Fair use rationale for Image:Cardy.gif

edit

Image:Cardy.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 06:11, 2 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

It's "Cardinia Shire", not "Shire of Cardinia"

edit

Just noticed the creation of a redirect from "Cardinia Shire" to "Shire of Cardinia". My understanding, backed up by the council website, is that the name is simply "Cardinia Shire". What's going on? HiLo48 (talk) 17:14, 25 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

*All* Victorian shires are "Shire of ___" in a legal sense, with certain notable exceptions (from memory - Golden Plains, Surf Coast, Corangamite, Colac-Otway, Alpine, Bass Coast). I could probably, given sufficient time, find the exact official publication which confirms that unambiguously, although as I'm not in Victoria, it might take a while. Websites can be very unreliable indicators of the legal name of the entity, and renaming them on a whim produces statewide inconsistency. In the meantime, the RACV rural directory (which makes a point of using the names as supplied from the Victorian Local Government Department's register) clearly marks it as "Shire of", and the exceptions I noted as "____ Shire". On a quick web search I've found plenty of "SoC" refs, some of which are official (eg "Shire of Cardinia Local Law" as gazetted in 2002), some of which appear on community and corporate websites relating to services covering the area. BTW, on checking, the website says "Cardinia Shire Council", not "Cardinia Shire". CSC is the correct name of the managing body which administers the Shire, but the article is about the area. Orderinchaos 10:27, 27 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
