Talk:Short Message Peer-to-Peer

An example format of the SMPP would be helpful

edit

An example format of the SMPP would be very helpful. What are the parameters that this protocol carry in order to make successful communication.

Thank you

Huh? There is an example posted. Jpatokal 03:07, 24 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Is it possible and if so, how would you Use SMPP to alter the normal process of sending an SMS message - to add a step in the process - for an SMSC to respond to an original message from a mobile device with a request or instructions to provide or generate the answer (request from SMSC could be for information found on the device or to solve a function) from the request or instructions that would then be added to the body of the message by the mobile device and resent to the SMSC? or the mobile device would send the answer and the SMSC would add it to the message?

You need a message gateway for that, and eg. the friendly people at First Hop would be happy to sell you one. Jpatokal 14:57, 10 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

SMS Forum has been disbanded as of July 2007

edit

There should be some mention of the fact that the SMS Forum has been disbanded and the protocol no longer seems to be updated. The last protocol specification update was version 5 in February 2003. From the SMS Forum website (http://smsforum.net/) retrieved 2008/07/18:

July 31, 2007 - The SMS Forum, a non-profit organization with a mission to develop, foster and promote SMS (short message service) to the benefit of the global wireless industry will disband by July 27, 2007

Other documents

edit

I've added a Amazon CDN powered mirror of the documents once hosted at smsforum.net - Others have also stepped to for hosting the documents, but really we need a CDN to host it globally. I hope this is alright with everyone. Cypres (talk) 09:13, 10 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

When SMPP is used for SMS peering, the sending MC usually acts as a client

edit

I wonder where this phrase came from because it is not mentioned in the SMPP specifications. According to SMPP 5.0 the MC can be the SMSC, USSDC or any other message center. Therefore, I think that this phrase is about the MC-initiated outbind use case. In practice, it's almost never used, but it is defined in the standard. However, I don't understand why the phrase mentions SMS peering in the same context. Therefore, I do think that this phrase is wrong. Dr.KBAHT (talk) 23:42, 16 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Incompatibility of submit_sm_resp between SMPP versions

edit

There is a large quote by Mr. C. Long from the SMS Forum, which looks rather questionable. First of all, I didn't find any sources. Second, qualifying some vendors as silly while mentioning the author affiliation with specific companies looks like WP:PROMO. I propose removing the whole quote or at least the company names.
