- What is a typical SMSC, physically? A mainframe computer? A bank of computers? Can we get a photo of one?
- Physically, a rack-mounted server.
- What types of connections to the outside world does the SMSC have?
- SS7 signalling links, and IP for things like MMS messaging.
- An SMSC does not handle MMS messages, further an SS7 connection can run via IP (SCTP)

- How specialized is the hardware?
- Simply a mid -to- high-end server. Not specialised at all, apart from the SS7 PCI card.
- Modern instalations use Sigtran/M3UA over an SCTP connection so require no specialist hardware at all.

SMS failed delivery storage/deletion
