Castcruft
editI think the names of the non-notable cast members in the regional productions should be deleted. -- Ssilvers 13:24, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
- I agree - I also think the list of Licensed Productions could be deleted in its entirety. PoisonedPigeon (talk) 08:20, 29 July 2010 (UTC)
- I agree. Wikipedia certainly doesn't list every Licensed Production of, say, Oklahoma! that happens every year. -- MarianKroy (talk)
- Done. Also removed long lists of amateur productions. -- Ssilvers (talk) 07:38, 29 November 2016 (UTC)
- Hi. Thanks Ssilvers, for your editing of the Showtune page. I'm Paul Gilger, the creator of the revue. Two items: The original title of the show is "Tune the Grand Up", not "The Best of Times". The show premiered in San Francisco in 1985 with the title "Tune the Grand Up". It was known by that name for 14 years. Only when we went to London in 1998 did the title get changed to "The Best of Times", and then in 2003 to "Showtune" for the NY productions. Also, Stephanie Lynge first appeared in the Los Angeles production. The Florida production was her second performance with the show. Thanks again and best regards, Paul. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.242.83.229 (talk) 23:36, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
Synopsis: copyvio?
editThe synopsis reads like a promo -- possibly from MTI? I trimmed it a bit, but I bet it is a copyvio. -- Ssilvers (talk) 07:38, 29 November 2016 (UTC)
- I think the synopsis is a direct quote from 'The Guide to Musical Theatre'. I tried to read that site's copyright section but I gave up, I just did not understand much of it. I will not further address this issue at this point, I do not know enough about copyright procedures on Wikipedia and am out of time at the moment for any serious research. Flami72 (talk) 12:34, 30 November 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks. I don't know if the Guide originated that write-up (they do take credit for it), but it appears to me to be clearly a copyvio, so I rewrote it. -- Ssilvers (talk) 20:45, 30 November 2016 (UTC)
- Nicely done!! Flami72 (talk) 21:19, 30 November 2016 (UTC)
Unreferenced
editThe article is entirely unreferenced. Can anyone please convert the ELs into appropriate in-line citations and add other citations to verify the assertions made? -- Ssilvers (talk) 07:38, 29 November 2016 (UTC)
- Moved some external links to article per request, added one citation. Maybe more work on this later today or this week.Flami72 (talk) 11:22, 29 November 2016 (UTC)
- Considerably better. Thanks! -- Ssilvers (talk) 08:40, 30 November 2016 (UTC)
- User:Flami72, if you have a moment, please consider the recent, unreferenced changes by and IP. I reverted them, but you may wish to help the IP. -- Ssilvers (talk) 19:25, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks for asking, but I have no time right now to do any more research/work on the article. I do note that the MTI shows site states "Under its original title Tune the Grand Up, Showtune premiered May 1, 1985, as a cabaret production at The 1177 Club in the Gramercy Towers on Nob Hill in San Francisco. " at " 'Showtune' History" mtishows.com, accessed November 29, 2016]. There is also a quote from Jerry Herman :"We tried it in San Francisco, and it ran for two years. It was called Tune the Grand Up." see the Playbill article, FEB 27, 2003: [1] . Again, I regret that I must pass on working on the article, as always I appreciate the vote of confidence. Flami72 (talk) 19:45, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
- Oh well, one more -- per this article dated June 30, 2003, a review in the Los Angeles Times of the Pasadena Playhouse 2003 production, [2], Stephanie Lynge performed in that production.Flami72 (talk) 22:11, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks. First: I hate to reward a person with a WP:COI (Gilger) for edit warring on the article, but it was already clear from refs in the article that the original title was "Tune the Grand Up", so I've made the corrections. Second: Lynge was also in the Florida cast, and I thought it would simpler and neater to mention only one other cast, but behold, I have added LA, against my better judgment. -- Ssilvers (talk) 01:01, 22 December 2016 (UTC)
