his original name
editThe monash biographical dictionary of 20C has his original name as 'Simcha Baevski'. (the Myers came later. When?) Should the article state this if its true? Lentisco 04:49, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
The National Archives of Australia has his 1902 naturalization file (under the name Simcha Baevski Myer). This gives the boat he arrived on (Karlsruhe, August 1899). The Victorian Public Records Office has a transcript of the passenger manifest for this boat. The Passengers include a Mr T Beavsky. The initial may have been mis-transcribed. (Can someone check the microfilm?) The Victorian Death Index for 1934 lists him as both Simcho Baevski and Sydney Baevski Myer. So, in summary, the surname Myer was adopted no later than 1902, the first name Sidney (or Sydney?) was adopted a little later. 220.253.58.96 10:05, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
The Victorian Passenger Lists are now viewable on familysearch.org. I read the entry as "Mr I Beavsky, aged 20". See: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSXD-JS4K-Y (requires familysearch login ) 203.166.236.52 (talk) 10:52, 21 October 2018 (UTC)
His American sojourn
editWhy no mention of his time in the USA? He went there to make his fortune, not intending to return to Australia. It was there (Reno, Neveda) that he divorced his first wife; married his 2nd wife, Merlyn; and had his children (born in San Francisco). He only came back to Australia because things didn't work out as well in the USA as he had hoped. This all certainly needs some mention. -- Jack of Oz ... speak! ... 08:55, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
