Gabriel de Luetz

@Bimerfatih: It does not make sense to add "Gabriel de Luetz" as a commander/leader when he was not one, at least not per the cited The Cambridge history of Iran, volume 6 citation. It does not mention that France took part in the war at all. HistoryofIran (talk) 00:57, 21 October 2024 (UTC)

This is what the pages 382-383 in the citation says; "In 1547 Sultan Suleyman the Magnificent took advantage of the revolt of Alqas Mirza, Shah Tahmasp's brother, to invade north-west Persia and occupy Tabriz.2 As it was then the policy of the French government to be on good terms with Turkey in order to be able to play off the sultan against the emperor, it was arranged for Gabriel de Luetz, Baron et Seigneur d'Aramon et de Vallabregues, the French ambassador to the Porte, to accompany the sultan on this expedition. He was accompanied by two of his secretaries named Jacques Gassut and Jean Chesneau. As the Persians had, when they retreated, adopted a "scorched earth" policy, lack of provisions soon forced the sultan to withdraw his troops. He then laid siege to the citadel of Van, which was held by the Persians. The Turkish artillery bombarded the citadel, but their fire was ineffectual until, at the suggestion of d'Aramon, they moved one of their batteries to the other side of the fortress; the Persians were then forced to surrender." --HistoryofIran (talk) 01:00, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
