Wrong census data for 1910
editEthnic groups In 1910:
- Hungarian 82.1%
- Romanian 9.4%
- German 2.5%
- Ruthenian 2.5%
- Other 0.2%
Religions In 1910:
- Jewish 37.3%
- Greek Catholic 27.4%
- Roman Catholic 22.9%
- Calvinist 10.9%
- Other 1.7%
This is strange how could be the hungarians of mosaic religion. There is a big discrepance between the numbers. And more strangely almost no romanians appeared on the census although the whole region was inhabited by romanian families. Moreover no Orthodox religion is taken into account... Please check the data sources for the page.
- Also, 27.4% were Greek Catolics -- these were obviously Romanians, not Hungarians.
- Actually, I think that the people were considered of 'Hungarian' ethnicity if they spoke Hungarian, making the statistics worthless.
- More likely, it should be something close to this:
- 37% Jews
- 29% Hungarians
- 28% Romanians
- 2.5% Rutherians
- 2.5% Germans
Comments on Sighet
edit- 1 Romanian settled in 1272 ?
Almost impossible. For more details please consult Gh. Filipascu's "History of Maramures".
- 2 Baia-Mare region ?
Are you sure ? As I know Baia Mare was part of the Satu Mare region at that time. I might be wrong, but I'm checking that.
- 3 Jews, Jewish culture
Sighetu Marmatiei is the birthplace of Ellie Wiesel - Nobel Prize winner in 1986. Unique monument for the victims of concentration camps.
Location within Romania
editCould someone make a map of Sighet's location within Romania? It would be extremely useful. Thanks. Stallions2010 22:42, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
- Here's a MapQuest link. You can zoom-out and zoom-in. --Khoikhoi 01:06, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
formerly Sighet
editIt would be useful to know when was Sighet replaced with Sighetu Marmatiei Criztu 06:54, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
My recent changes
editOne change I did not explain the summary involved the removal of past regional affiliations inside Romania: they are both misleading (we should have articles on the 1950s regions rather than linking their capital cities) and, ultimately, not that relevant (I mean, are we also going to mention the fact that it was part of Ţinutul Crişuri?). Need someone to delink words
editHi I want to make a page about the Chasidid group Sighet, but I can't because Sighet automatically directs here. Can someone deliknk the two words. I don't know how. Shia1 17:49, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
- What you need to do is create an article under a different title, such as Sighet (Hassidic dynasty), or whatever you think is appropriate and descriptive. The single name should redirect here, since this is both the origin of the Hassidic name and the most common occurrence of the name. You can write the name you decide upon here, then click the (red) link to it and create the article. Alternatively, you could type the name in the search window and create it from the link to "create the article". Dahn 17:53, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
Okay, I did that. Is it okay for tab at the top of this article to read "For the Hasidic Dynasy try Sighet (Hasidic dynasty)?" or something similar? Shia1 18:04, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
Wow, thanks. That was really really fast. Thanks so much. Shia1 18:18, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
- No prob. Dahn 18:21, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
Just curious
editWasn't this article much longer before with a lot of info about a famous prison and communist stuff? Why is it shorter now? 82.81.175.10 09:08, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
