editJust a few quick notes for someone to look into:
1) This article should probably link or redirect to the Tolowa Language page since that's what Siletz Dee-ni is.
2) It needs confirmation, but the "last speaker" in question is probably Bud Lane.
3) There are more than one "Siletz language". The tribe is a confederation the tribes that were forced onto the Siletz reservation.
4) "Siletz Dee-ni" is an Athabaskan language from Southern Oregon.
5) "Siletz" is a Tillamook language (Salish language family).
- 1) It's more apt to say that Tolowa is a dialect of Siletz Dee-ni. Dee-ni is similar to Modern Standard Arabic in that it's a creole of the dialects.
- 2) The last speaker is indeed Bud Lane. He and several others, myself included, are working to bring the language back from the brink.
- 3) With these statement, you are treading on shaky ground. There is only one Siletz language (Tillamook Salish, which is extinct) and there is the Confederated Tribe language, the Siletz Dee-ni.
- 4,5) Pretty much right on.
