Spelling: Gallaher or Gallagher?

edit

I accept his surname is pronounced "gallaher". But is it necessarily spelt that way? My (perhaps faulty) understanding was that it was spelt "Gallagher", and we can find various ghits supporting that. But just as many ghits for Simon Gallaher.

Is there anything that settles the matter once and for all? -- Jack of Oz ... speak! ... 12:55, 23 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

A Google Books search brings up plenty of references to Simon Gallaher (in Billboard, Super Aussie Soaps, and lots of books on Australian theatre and music), but I couldn't find any spelt "Gallagher". --Canley (talk) 13:00, 23 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
The National Library of Australia seems to think it’s Gallagher. And there are various other ghits for the Gallagher spelling, including one of the external links we use in the article. But his profile on his own company’s site has Gallaher, so that’s authoritative enough for me. Given the misinformation out there, we need a redirect from Simon Gallagher. I'll organise that. -- Jack of Oz ... speak! ... 21:55, 23 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
That's funny, because the NLA also have Biographical cuttings on Simon Gallaher! --Canley (talk) 00:26, 24 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
That's doubly funny, because I searched the NLA Catalogue for the Gallaher spelling and drew a blank. How weird. -- Jack of Oz ... speak! ... 00:49, 24 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Oops, that must be a different Simon Gallaher—I just noticed that these biographical cuttings date from the early 20th century to 2000, and include an obituary! --Canley (talk) 08:25, 24 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
No, I think it's the same guy. He's also described as an entertainer, and there's sufficient typographic confusion out there to explain why they'd have duplicate entries for the same person (Wikipedia does it all the time). Plus, that entry uses standard boilerplate text, and it's not necessarily saying there's an obituary for this particular person. -- Jack of Oz ... speak! ... 18:58, 24 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

It's Gallaher I should know because we are realated.

Anonymous edits do nothing to advance debates. In any case, we rely on reliable published sources around here, not on unsourced assertions. Thank you. -- Jack of Oz ... speak! ... 11:44, 15 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
His company website spells it Gallaher. [1] Surely his own company knows how to spell the proprietor's name. 2.107.68.46 (talk) 12:00, 26 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
