editRe: Simon Langton Grammar School for Boys
This page is excellent, insofar as it is heartening to see my old alma mater here. However, I would suggest some changes here and add them to the page if the original editors get back to me and feel its appropriate, or, at least, some consensus is reached.
1) The article could make more of the school being a Grammar (i.e. selective school) 2) More history could be given, e.g. founding in 1881, site at Whitefriars, bombed during the Blitz, move to Nackington, list of Headmasters &c. 3)More could be said about the OLA 4) The current article is very '6th form 2005 - 2006 centred'- which is the most notable limitation with it. All of the 'fun' stuff mentioned later in the article (the coffee bar, sports tornaments, students union &c.) is very new to the school. What have the 6th form been like historically? What about the lower school? And staff? 5) Could more use of links be made? To other wikipedia entries (Grammar school, especially) and to external sites?
Compare, for instance http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_King%27s_School%2C_Canterbury
Please post a reply here and we'll try and come up with a more 'rounded' entry for SLBS.
Hail True Body p.s. As a newbie in wikipedia, I apologise if I've breached any conventions or aspects of witiquette. Please advise if so. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hail True Body (talk • contribs) 16:59, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
- I do agree with what you've said, but the limitation is that as the people who wrote this, we are not that well versed in the history of the school, or have much knowledge of what has gone on in the past. Feel free to add to the article as you see fit. If anything does not conform to wikipedia policies, we'll let you know so you can change it accordingly. Thanks for your help!NeilTH
I'll revise and update this page as soon as I can, taking into account what I said above. However, I need to spend some time in the library finding out a few more things aboutr the area's local history, and maybe chat with some past headmasters. Hopefully we'll get an article to rival King's :)

Fair use rationale for Image:Langton lion.jpg
editImage:Langton lion.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

editI suggest using the Langton News as citation material. Many issues hold plenty of infomation which is relevant. Link: http://www.thelangton.org.uk/langtonnews/archive.php —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.22.106.192 (talk) 10:28, 10 April 2010 (UTC)

January 2011 Assessment
editPer a request at the schools project I am assessing this article Start/Low. I encourage editors to consult the [[Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Assessment/B-Class criteria|B article criteria as a means of determining possible idea for improvement.
Just off the top of my head: here are some immediate things that spring to mind that need to be improved or fixed:
I am concerned that there needs to be a little more referencing to make it "C". For a school in excess of 125 years old, the history section appears to be far too short. The last two sentences of the section appear to be unencyclopedic (not having background in the British school system , I cannot be too certain, and would like someone with more background to confirm my thoughts, or confirm this material is encyclopedic). There should be no mention of students, even national award winning students, unless they are the subject of a Wikipedia article, or eligible for same under the notability criteria. The English flag in the infobox needs to be removed per the manual of style for using flags (flags do not belong in infoboxes). In the alumni section, there are far too many non-notable alumni and need to be removed (the criteria for listing alumni is that they must be the subject of a Wikipedia article, or eligible for one under the notability policy. Lemon and Twyman may be two rare exceptions as they are not themselves notable, but were involved in founding/inventing something that is. There is no need to have a section title "Military alumni" followed by the phrase "The school's military alumni includes:"
Even after eliminating the alumni who don't belong, the fact that the remaining list is long, and that the school claims to be the first school of its kind to have a program for the autistic, and its connection to CERN, I believe that this article could be of Mid importance. However, this cannot be confirmed until appropriate referencing takes place.
This school sounds like a great institution with an important story to tell. I wish editors best of luck in improving the article. LonelyBeacon (talk) 19:08, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
