I assume "delta-v" means change in velocity. In which case, shouldn't the units be ms^-2 (ie metres per second per second)?
No, it's not a change in velocity per unit time. It's the change in velocity which results, in the absence of outside forces, from the expenditure of some propellant. In this case, the Δv is that due to expending all of the propellant available in the SAFER pack. (Perhaps the best units would be "m s^-1 recharge^-1." :)
SAFER is also used on the ORLAN suit
editI believe there's a good image of it in the book U.S. Space Gear. Having trouble finding many online sources for it but here's two. [1] & [2] —Preceding unsigned comment added by Craigboy (talk • contribs) 04:54, 24 March 2010 (UTC)
Here's another source confirming the existence of SAFER for orlan suits [3] --Craigboy (talk) 21:26, 3 April 2010 (UTC)
Started looking at some Russian EVA photos and they don't seem to be using it(instead they use the hooks), not sure what the deal is. --Craigboy (talk) 04:49, 11 April 2010 (UTC)
All the expeditions' EVAs from 1998-2010 used tethers. Didn't see SAFER being used Gallery Index --Craigboy (talk) 06:26, 11 April 2010 (UTC)
I've come to the conclusion that SAFER was intended to be used on the Orlan but for some reason it's not. --Craigboy (talk) 04:07, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
Confirmation that Orlan doesn't use SAFER - At about 1:50.--Craigboy (talk) 10:02, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
Found some info in the book US Spacesuits (page.321), in 1995 NASA and RSA agreed the ISS safety requirements necessitated a Russian version of SAFER to be developed. Concepts were drawn up on how SAFER would fit on the Orlan-DMA suit. Several different iterations of mock-ups were made in the US. In 2002, Zvezda completed the development of a Russian SAFER system to be used on a Orlan-M suit. It [was] expected to go into use in 2006. But that's where information stops and since the book was published in 2006, it doesn't offer any explanation on why this didn't happen. --Craigboy (talk) 11:09, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
I found two images, to give you an idea of what it looked like and for one one it looks completely different from the American SAFER. [4] and [5] --Craigboy (talk) 11:25, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
Found more info but apparently it's refereed to as the USK. --Craigboy (talk) 12:31, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
Essential it was scrapped due to lack of funds. http://www.militarynews.ru/excl.asp?ex=44 --Craigboy (talk) 02:06, 20 June 2013 (UTC)
