Nepalese Victory?

edit

How was this a Nepalese victory? They ended up paying tribute to the Qing emperor. The line about the Nepalese victory doesn't seem to take into account the second invasion.

Split article

edit

The article should be split into First Nepal-Tibet War to avoid confusion. Thanks. Bada Kaji (talk • श्रीमान् गम्भीर) 16:01, 18 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

This is a good summary article. There is potential probably for more than one sub-articles. But I don't see how it is confusing. I would ask that you provide a more detailed rationale. Specifically, what scope do you envision for this article and the new article respectively if split? Regards! Usedtobecool ☎️ 13:38, 31 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
It is confusing in that it represents China's view of the world, not ours. The page "Third Nepal–Tibet War" implies that the first two "Nepal-Tibet Wars" are covered on this page. The first one had no Chinese participation. The second one was fought jointly by Tibet and China, and China came in only because Tibet requested it. If Tibet were China (as is now claimed), China would have needed no invitation!
Leo Rose's Nepal – Strategy for Survival calls the first war "THE FIRST NEPALI-TIBETAN WAR". The second war has a whole chapter titled "China's Trans-Himalayan Adventure: The Nepali-Chinese War, 1791-93". The war itself is covered in a section titled "THE SECOND NEPALI-TIBETAN WAR".
The Latinized "Sino-Nepalese" makes it appear as if it is standard term. But it is not.
I don't think splitting the article is helpful. It should be titled something like "Nepal–Tibet Wars, 1788–1793". -- Kautilya3 (talk) 16:19, 27 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
The Qing forces were very actively involved in the war, especially after 1789 (as the suzerain of Tibet at that time). The English name "Sino-Nepalese War" is commonly used in many English sources, but I agree that splitting the article is not helpful. --Wengier (talk) 04:41, 27 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
