Talk:Sir Hector Maclean

Latest comment: 15 years ago by Richard Arthur Norton (1958- )

This has been a redirect to Hector Maclean because this is not an overly-lengthy dab, and so there is no need for half of them to be repeated here. As many of them on HM dab are also called Sir, and aren't on here, this could cause confusion, and the only way to rectify this would be further duplication at this title, which is pointless. We don't want to create pages like this except out of necessity, otherwise the amount of dabs could easily quadruple unnecessarily. I thought I'd put this on here as my edit has been reverted twice, and didn't want this getting over 3RR. Thanks, Boleyn3 (talk) 11:47, 21 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Norton, that's now your 3rd revert - please put your answers to the points raised above on here if you want to continue disputing this. Boleyn3 (talk) 17:28, 24 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

  • Please point to some rule, the size of Wikipedia is not relevant. "Sir Hector Maclean" and "Hector Maclean" are not synonyms. You wrote "Most entries on HM page can be known as 'Sir'". This is incorrect, only three have been knighted. An encyclopedia must be accurate, not based on one editors best guess. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 17:56, 24 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Norton, you've just taken that to a 4th revert without discussing it first. Boleyn3 (talk) 20:18, 24 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

I was obviously not clear enough in my explanation; I did not mean to assert that others were called 'sir' but that because of their position, as clan chiefs, that it was a possibility that people would look for them under this title. As you've gone beyond 3RR, I'll refer it to an admin and am quite happy to go along with whatever he suggests. Boleyn3 (talk) 05:59, 25 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

The issue of "sub-disambigs" is not really resolved, and it's unclear how to proceed with them. Should John A. Smith redirect to the dab at John Smith, or be its own dab? Should Blue (film) be its own dab, or a redirect to Blue (disambiguation)? There are upsides and downsides to each, and I think either is acceptable. I would caution Richard Arthur Norton, however, to explain his preference rather than mutely revert. – Quadell (talk) 19:54, 25 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
My reversion was explained more than once, this is now the third time posting the same rationale. "Sir Hector Maclean" and "Hector Maclean" are not synonyms. She wrote "Most entries on HM page can be known as 'Sir'" (my emphasis added). This is incorrect, only three have been knighted. An encyclopedia must be both accurate as well as useful, and the Sir disambiguation page is both. Cheers. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 21:37, 28 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

You still haven't explained on here where you went beyond 3rr or fully entered the discussion here. As this wasn't formatted correctly, I've amended it. Boleyn (talk) 20:24, 28 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

I have not violated WP:3RR if you believe I have, I welcome bringing it to WP:ANI. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 21:39, 28 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
