The current name Skalvians has fewer Google hits than Scalvians. The name Scalowians should be the best though, corresponding with the (German: Schalauer). --Matthead 07:31, 9 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

This does seem to be at an odd title. I wouldn't trust Google searches for this, since searches for this rarely-mentioned tribe are filled with wiki-mirrors. "Scalovians" (the people of Scalovia) would be the best title, IMO. Olessi 21:26, 21 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
The term Skalvians comes from the Lithuanian term "Skalva", which is very appropriate since the Skalvians were a Baltic tribe like the Lithuanians. It seems strangely inappropriate to try to construct a name for this tribe from the German placename.
Strange argument, Lithuanians are close to Latvians, both are baltic nations, so, should Lithuanians in WP named after Lietuvieši name? This is english Wikipedia, terms should be english.
The term "Scalovians" shows exactly 2 (count 'em) Google hits while "Scalowians" shows no non-Wikipedia hits. "Skalvians" has over 1000. Although many of these are from Wikipedia, Skalvians still outnumbers any other construct. We really shouldn't be making these names up, but rather relying on the standard name. Proposed merger

edit

I can't see much point on having two stubs at Scalovia and Scalovians covering almost exactly the same topic. Most ancient peoples are at the name of the people, which would suggest that, if merged, Scalovians would be a better title for the article. Any thoughts? Grutness...wha? 10:48, 23 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Oppose we have different articles on the topic in Lithuanian and German, so the english should also remain separate, although expansion is needed.Iulius 09:24, 8 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
