As a note, I was linked to here from the fathoms page. This described a skein as 50 fathoms of fishing line, which is not mentioned on this page. I'm guessing it should either be added or the fathoms page corrected, but I don't know which.94.193.240.211 (talk) 23:07, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
Balista
editThe article on balista refers to the bundle of fibres used to power the weapon as a skein. Dawright12 (talk) 12:21, 7 March 2012 (UTC)
Skein and hyperspace
editIn Scifi, skein is used to describe regular space-time, e.g. Iain M. Banks (pretty sure it is explicitly defined in hydrogen sonata). Googling hyperspace skein or cosmology skein proves that it is a common term. I would add a line, but I don't know what is the link between real space-time and knot polynomials (or geese formations). --Squidonius (talk) 01:13, 6 October 2014 (UTC)
- Google is not "proof" of anything. The only thing that search shows is that (a) Iain Banks uses it and (b) it's the name of a Jedi Master. It is not relevant enough to be included on Wikipedia. Primefac (talk) 18:37, 6 October 2014 (UTC)
