Thank you (from Yumi)
editHello. Thank you for nominating Sky High (TV series) to the WikiProject Anime and manga category. I'm not yet sure how that works, but I hope it will help us expand the article. Although we need to be clear to everyone that while the series (Sky High) is based on a manga, it is live action, not an anime. As long as that's understood, it might also help to place this in a category appropriate for a non-animated TV drama. Also thank you for the suggestion of merging the TV article and 2003 film article together. It's not a bad thought, as they are obviously connected. However, they are also somewhat independent of each other in the following sense: North American audiences are familiar with the film which was a major big budget release with a dubbed/subtitled North American distribution. But most are unaware that it is based on a Japanese TV series. So far there has been no official distribution of it in North America. It's very difficult to find any information on it—even though it's hugely popular in Japan. Ironically, some of my friends who live in Japan are fans of the series, have seen every episode, but are less familiar with the movie. So in a sense, it’s two different fan bases. It might confuse people who are looking for one or the other to merge them.
At the moment, they’re both stubs. There’s so much more to tell about both. The film is very complex, many characters and subplots, and (since I’ve seen it and own the DVD) I’d like to help tackle it, as I have time. But I created the page for the series, not only because I want people to know the series—but I need help help from other Wikipedians to learn more about it, myself. Because the series (like any series) is even more extensive than the film. With help from others, I want to see episode lists for each season, character lists, guest stars—like any other TV series article. All that, plus a full fleshed out feature film article would be a lot on a single page, and possibly confusing.
At the same time, I want it clear they are connected, in the same universe, same actress, with clear links between the two pages. What do you think?
Thank you! I’m excited about this!
Yumi

editSince the manga is the original work, the article needs to be rewritten to make the manga the primary focus of the article. —Farix (t | c) 13:34, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
Respectfully Disagree
editI have (for now) removed the "notability for books" banner, because it is misplaced and unfair. This is not a book, it's a very well known TV series in Japan BASED on a book. But it is not a book. It is a TV series. That would be no different than removing an article on "The Incredible Hulk" TV series starring Bill Bixby or "Little House of the Prairie" starring Melissa Gilbert. Both series were huge shows I grew up on in the 70s and 80s and both are based on books. "Bones" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bones_(TV_series) is hugely popular. It is based on a mystery novel series. Should we delete the article? Focus only on the book? Probably not. More people are familiar with the TV series. Same is true for Sky High. The TV series starring Yumiko Shaku was huge. It spawned a popular big budget film, starring the same actress (which is available in the US).
I've come across this article before--and there was a stub for the manga--that's missing now, and I notice the citations that Yumi and a couple of other authors had placed appear to be missing now. Let's see if we can find those and restore them. I'll try to as I have time. And let's do an article on the manga, discussing how it spawned the TV series and then the movie. But let's not ignore the TV series, which many more people know about than the manga.

Techinical Help
editI'm not sure why I can't move the links and refs down BELOW the episode list. I've tried and someone else did too. It doesn't seem to work. Very strange. -Phil
Wow!
editPhil, you have done a wonderful job here!! I've been away from it for awhile, and look what I come back and find!! Thank you!! ^__^
I agree, it doesn't make since to me to dump the TV series and movie all under the manga article. Many of my friends are huge Skyhigh TV series fans, and the movie is distributed here in the US. And people know Yumiko!! More people know about the show and Yumiko Shaku as Izuko than they do the manga--it's the show that brought some attention to the manga, not the other way around in this case. If you're going to have a merger, then merge it under the series, not the manga. But the manga is the source material, so it's certainly worth a mention. But keep the page on the TV show and the movie!
Just my opinion! Thank you! Yumi (Happy Yumi Harris (talk) 16:00, 13 April 2010 (UTC))
Compromise?
editI removed the merge tag to the manga, but added a merge suggestion for a merger between the series and the movie. I still think they should remain separate, but if there was going to be a merger, it should be between the movie and its "sister" TV series, because there is a connection between the two. The manga?--not so much (other than the basic concept).
Still I would suggest continuing to build the articles separately (because it's three completely different audiences) and use links in between where appropriate to show the connections and source material.
I agree
editThank you for the kind words, Yumi. But, I'm with you. I think they should be separate. Phil Crystal (talk) 17:40, 13 April 2010 (UTC)
Thank YOU!!
editNo, thank you, Phil! I created this page a long time ago, and never got back to it. And then I saw what you've done on it! I'm blown away! ^__^
Prequel? (Spoilers)
editWhy does the article say that the movie is a prequel? It's obviously a sequel to the first season, released between the season 1 and 2. At the end of the first season, Izuko remembers that she was never born and chooses to be reborn. In the movie, we see Izuko alive as "Mina" (obviously as a result of her choice at the end of the first season). But later she is killed again for being "one of the previous gatekeepers". When was she the gatekeeper before? In the first season! Later in the movie she becomes the gatekeeper again, and the second season continues from there. So how come the movie is a prequel to the whole series? Am I missing something?

Okay I've finished watching the second season now, and in the last 2 episodes, Izuko said she was never born and decided to live a life at the end, just like in the last episode of season 1. I don't understand. Does that mean she was killed 2 times before she was born? Even in that case, the movie can only be a sequel to the second season. Because she is alive for the first time there right? Even if we assume that she had a life long before the first season, and the movie is showing that, then why is the movie in the same timeline with the series? What is why a prequel, sequel or whathever, can someone explain?
