List of Indigenous American slavery practices

edit

Riposte97, one problem with eliminating the previous title is that it is now awkward to include the slavery practices of indigenous Americans after Columbus.
Kars on her 2020 book, for instance, emphasizes that slave trading was a lucrative business for the Carib Indians of Dutch Guiana (a colony larger in area than New England) in the 18th century.
Palmié in his 1995 book also emphasizes that British North America Indians were major enslavers and traders of African slaves. Numerous other examples to add (the Cherokee took West their black slaves with them on the Trail of Tears, for example).
Well, the issue here is that with the renaming of this article, where is now the home for this subject matter? I mean, look at the first sentence of the article:

Slavery was widely practiced by the Indigenous peoples of the Americas, both prior to European colonisation and subsequently’'.

Hi Xavier, that material is probably better suited to Native American slave ownership. Content was spread willy-nilly between half a dozen pages before I tried to rationalise things. Riposte97 (talk) 04:09, 6 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
I appreciate the prompt response, Riposte97. I see where some of the material I have in mind could go on that page, and not here, so thanks.
But in a hierarchy of things, “Native American” would be a subpage of “Amerindian” or somesuch… I mean, I cited one passage of Kars’ 2020 book, but in reality, there is a lot more material in that book and elsewhere about the South American Indian slave ownership practices both before and after Columbus, material which clearly cannot be added to “Native American,” since most US people (and indeed the US government as well) consider that term as US-only. Note I continued this line of inquiry at [[1]], which I have since learned is probably a better forum for my concerns. XavierItzm (talk) 04:34, 6 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
