Mobile versions

edit

Can someone confirm the mobile versions are not legal ports? I'd like to have a paragraph about that, because right now, there's a perfect port on Android, and I can't find out if it's official or not (which points it to not being)

The game

edit

I found some sources on a local news station that had some background for this game, would that be acceptable? Thank you.184.98.143.25 (talk) 07:57, 30 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

I would expect so. Be bold and add the information and cite sources. If it's not credible or pertinent others will remove or tag for deletion.MikelZap (talk) 10:17, 30 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

"(a young black woman from the sound of her heavy breathing)". This strikes me as inappropriate as well as undocumented. I have edited to remove race and gender speculation. Eponymous (fnord) 02:58, 16 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

I believe this section should contain a paragraph describing the gameplay mechanics and objectives. I am willing to do this, but I haven't actually played the game, so anyone with more direct experience would be more qualified.Kevinjcash (talk) 01:44, 3 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

It would be nice if the article actually mentioned what the game was about first (including the source/inspiration, sure) and then saved the details of development, release, special modes, etc. for later. Or even if the lede was buried that's fine. After reading the article twice I had to turn to Google for a decent explanation. That's kind of sad. 98.217.188.164 (talk) 18:44, 13 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Sequels

edit

The "sequels" named aren't really sequels at all; they are merely fan-made games based on the original idea of Slender, the main differences being the maps in the game. The game's creator even said himself that he doesn't like the fact that these games were released without his permission. I suggest this section be deleted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.128.174.52 (talk) 11:39, 18 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Constant Vandalism and Semi-Protect Request

edit

This page as received huge amounts of vandalism recently, from people trying to advertise their own Let's Plays and writing nonsense, to just outright blanking the page. I'm asking that we make this page Semi-Protected, at least until the immense stream of people trying to edit dies down. From the page's History, most of the vandalism is coming from unregistered IP addresses, so getting it Semi-Protected should solve the problem. Haon 2.0 (talk)

I agree that semi-protection is probably warranted here. Though you need to request it at WP:RFPP. SilverserenC 01:54, 19 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
Just requested it. ZappaOMati 01:57, 19 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Licencing

edit

Could anyone add the licensing info on the page?64.180.243.15 (talk) 18:53, 22 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

edit

Why is the Slender logo protected by copyright? Shouldn't it be licensed under this:
This image only consists of simple geometric shapes and/or text. It does not meet the threshold of originality needed for copyright protection, and is therefore in the public domain. Although it is free of copyright restrictions, this image may still be subject to other restrictions.
I've seen more complicated logos than this under this licens anyway. 83.255.114.225 (talk) 23:08, 27 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

I agree. The logo is very simple - it should be lisenced as above. Andrei.smolnikov (talk) 04:56, 31 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Future Development

edit

On the Slender Development Board, AgentParsec himself has said many things about the future development of the game, such as the use of multiple light sources and the updating of the Slender Man model. Would that be suitable to add to the development section? http://slenderdev.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=slender&action=display&thread=37 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.5.107.137 (talk) 01:38, 6 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

I think you should at least establish a Further Development section. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.183.233.97 (talk) 07:09, 8 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Spelling

edit

I spotted a spelling mistake in the section "Development and release" in the forth passage "From versin 0.9.7 on (...)". Just thought I'd let you know, so maybe someone who can edit semi-protected pages can correct it.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.21.42.13 (talkcontribs) 17:28, 8 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Edit: I spotted another mistake in the same passage "(...) when there is no statc on the screen (...)" — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.21.42.13 (talkcontribs) 17:18, 8 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

  Done Thanks for reporting! 150elias (talk) 17:37, 8 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

9.7

edit

A couple things about the section. For one, I believe "creepy" background music is merely an opinion, and should be changed to just "background music on the menu screen". Also, all the information on 9.7 appears to be uncited. A good source would be the above post about the further development about the game. 108.5.107.137 (talk) 23:21, 8 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Removal of "Media based on Slender"?

edit

I feel this section (or parts of it) does not really belong here as its not really relevant to the game, there are multiple videos on youtube about slender, the fact that "the annoying orange" made a video about it does not warrant inclusion in the article, why isn't every video on youtube which mentions the game included? Also to say games other games are based in it i dont think is right, they would mainly be based on the whole "Slenderman" thing, which of course this game did not invent. Would this section be best removed?? 86.129.139.54 (talk) 20:06, 10 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

No, I only added games, that are referenced, that had "Based on Slender" somewhere in their intro or title screen. Also the creator of AO is very notable, so for him to make a video based on Slender, and to have it sourced by an article does warrant its inclusion. Soulboost (talk) 03:02, 11 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

These games are based on Slender... As they share source/meshes/textures and game engine from what I understand. An example of something based on the "Slenderman legend" but not on the original game would be Slender: Source, now known as Faceless on the official Steam Greenlight project, as that just shares the story of Slenderman but uses a different game engine.[1] So, you see, the one mentioned (As well as Slender: Claustrophobia and some others) are in fact based on the original Slender. --Celtisch (talk) 09:32, 18 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Yes I realize that the are based on Slender. They obviously are. I just feel that the section should stay and that games based on Slender should only be added if they are referenced such as the first map of Slender Man's Shadow (which is a series of maps featuring Slenderman).

Change page title?

edit

Since the name has been changed to Slender: The Eight Pages, shouldn't the page title be changed to suit? — Preceding unsigned comment added by ShadowStealer7 (talkcontribs) 05:59, 14 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

When you say it has been changed. Do you mean that if I was to download the game right now, it would say "SLENDER: The Eight Pages: when the title appears? Because my current download of the game just says "SLENDER". Charlr6 (talk) 13:40, 14 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
I think it should be moved to Slender: The Eight Pages with a redirect from here. Sboy365License to edit. —Preceding undated comment added 23:14, 15 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Change name of the Antagonist under the "Slender Man" section?

edit

As far as this anonymous Wikipedian and Slender Man Mythos fan is aware, the Slender Man (or Slenderman) is never simply known as "Slender" in any other stories, web series, blogs, or anything else related to the Mythos, either as a full name or as a shortening of the full name. The only real reason people are using "Slender" as a name for it is because the name of the game used to just be Slender. For reasons of factual accuracy regarding the mythos this game is based on, and for reasons of preventing any vandalism in the future, we might want to remove or change the text "The Slender Man, or "Slender" for short..." It just seems you're going to get a lot of annoyed Slender Man Mythos fans coming in and changing the page out of anger if you leave it. I didn't edit it myself since it would only have been out of personal preference and annoyance anyway. Just trying to help nip a potential problem in the bud. :) 76.236.178.140 (talk) 20:48, 4 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

I would even dispute 'or "Slender" for short'; I doubt me if you could find a single reliable source who refers to him as 'Slender'. 143.92.1.32 (talk) 23:28, 9 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
I doubt you could ever find anyone who knows anything about Slender Man outside of this game who refers to him as 'Slender'. -50.197.67.105 (talk) 17:12, 27 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Camera

edit

"Later versions of the game added a zoom control, partially to emphasize that the player's view is seen through a camera; in the standard mythology, this is the only circumstance in which the Slender Man is visible." -- incorrect. The mythology is unclear on why some people see him and some people don't, but M from The Tutorial frequently sees him without a camera, as do all characters from Just Another Fool (though they don't necessarily recognise him), and Damien from Dreams in Darkness. Even in Marble Hornets, while Slender Man initially appears only on film, his victims can see him at all times; the camera is only used to keep the Slender Man away, as he apparently doesn't like being caught on film. 143.92.1.32 (talk) 23:34, 9 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Itunes Apps

edit

Should there be a mention about the Mobile Apps that have flooded the Itunes store? The "original" one which was a identical copy of the computer game attempted so say they were connected but eventually was modified to separate the two creators. These mobile games (about 20 in all) are not related to the Shadow series and are different series created by different programmers. --Darkness2light (talk) 20:41, 1 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Germanic legend?

edit

Really? Is there any evidence for this legend before the Slender Man meme? 31.54.185.187 (talk) 19:08, 21 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Indented line No. There is not. That all came from members of SomethingAwful and 4Chan. There is no Germanic legend about the Slenderman (or Slender Man). I have no citations that it's real, but a little search on the Creepypasta Wiki has brought up this story. Since there's plenty of evidence it's a creepypasta, and none that it's real, I think it's safe to say this is nonsense and you can safely remove it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.235.173.89 (talk) 04:45, 25 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

on the paragraph about gameplay it refers to the character as "her" running will tire out the character and decrease her maximum walking speed i think that this iether needs to be sited/proven or changed to him/her. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zeroro (talkcontribs) 13:26, 9 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

COLLECT MY PAGES Soon. λ NegativeMP1 21:10, 8 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

I'm still planning on reviewing this, just going to need a little bit longer. λ NegativeMP1 20:25, 20 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to regretfully fail this article at present. My reasoning for this is the weak Reception section. Several articles with critical commentary are simply stuffed into a single note, and the section is extremely short, which makes the article as a whole seem unfinished. An additional concern some could bring up would be the weight of opinions. There's also an extra review that could be used here. The rest of the article seems fine, though some writing is weird.

  • A gameplay screenshot would be nice.
  • "Hadley was a 35-year-old" The way that this reads makes it seem like he's dead. Reword to something like "At the time, Hadley was a 35-year-old ..."
  • I'm sure for an interview it would be acceptable, but what is the reliability of LevelSave?
  • "The Eight Pages was released on June 26 as a free beta for Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X, originally titled Slender." → "The Eight Pages was released on June 26 as a free beta for Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X. The game was originally titled Slender."
  • What made the game an "experiment"?
  • "The highly anticipated" anticipated by who?

If these issues are addressed and the article is renominated, I will be glad to take a second look, but at present there are serious concerns with broadness. I'm free to chat on my talk page or on Discord if you have any further questions. λ NegativeMP1 04:18, 23 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
