Talk:Sly, Slick and Wicked

Which band is this article about?

edit

There seems to be two different music groups (both from around the 1970s) that went by the band name "Sly, Slick and Wicked".

  1. From Cleveland Ohio (with John Wilson)
  2. From Los Angeles (with Sonny Daye)

The article has been changed back and forth between the two multiple times, many times without reliable sources to verify the information. It seems as if an edit war is going on about what subject this article is about. Also, some of these editors may have a conflict of interest (or personal relationship) with the subject. In the future, it's best to discuss and collaborate here (on the talk page) before making large changes to the article, especially if you plan on changing which band the article is talking about.

In the meantime, I think it'd be best to get some consensus on what the subject of the article is.

Should this article be about:

  • A. The Cleveland, Ohio band (with John Wilson)
  • B. The Los Angeles band (with Sonny Daye)
  • C. Both

  • Comment From what I can tell, the article seemed to largely be about the Cleveland, Ohio band until 2019. I suggest it is reverted back to being about the Ohio band (especially since the new edits are largely unsourced). If others want to write about the Los Angeles band, I think it should be in a new / separate article so that the two aren't mixed up any longer. - Whisperjanes (talk) 22:23, 7 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • User:Whisperjanes, I've decided to boldly solve this problem by converting this page to a disambiguation page. As you already know something about which band did which things, please go through the article's history and copy the content to the two listed red links. This is technically a WP:SPLIT (in copyright terms), so please use "Split content from [[Sly, Slick, and Wicked]]" as the edit summary.
know that you have your doubts about whether the one band is actually notable, but (a) it might be, and (b) I think that going through this process will solve the confusion even if it's not. WhatamIdoing (talk) 16:50, 31 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
    • @WhatamIdoing: That works with me. I think it's pretty possible they're both notable, it's just that I haven't been able to find reliable sources on the LA band, so I assumed it would get deleted -- but it's a good solution either way, like you said. Thanks for your help so far! Since I posted on the RfC talk page, I haven't been able to be very active on Wikipedia recently, so I appreciate your bold solution. - Whisperjanes (talk) 19:09, 31 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
