Merge

We should absolutely merge this article with business casual, as it appears to be nothing more than a British variant of the phrase. This article, which is used as a reference, even explicitly states that "smart casual" refers to what Americans call "business casual". Berserk798 (talk) 04:12, 22 September 2010 (UTC)

Actually, a different reference makes a distinction by saying that "smart casual" is "business casual" but worn in a non-work setting, although the BBC article clearly refers to it as a business dress code. Haha really? On what planet is a man wearing dress pants, dress shoes, dress socks, dress shirt and a jacket and tie considered by anyone to be dressed casually (even "smart" casually)? Planet Earth. Most men who consider themselves fashionable consider businesswear to be suits, a jacket and tie with odd trousers can then be considered casual. It's weird that people who don't follow any rules want to rewrite the guidelines. Why?132.183.13.16 (talk) 18:00, 15 January 2014 (UTC)

That's a negative. Please see formal wear for formal dress attire. For suits level, please see informal wear. Else, see casual. Smart casual is casual when elements of the suit, i.e. informal wear, is still present. PPEMES (talk) 12:52, 2 October 2019 (UTC)

I don't see any of you providing any sources to back up your versions of it. The critical point is that the definitions of these terms change over time and by geography anyway, so it's pointless bickering as though there's a precise definition. Largoplazo (talk) 21:40, 24 December 2021 (UTC)

Women's version

Since it omitted elements specific to women's smart casual dress, the list of elements listed in the lead paragraph were obviously for men, so I've annotated it as such. There needs to be a corresponding list for women. Largoplazo (talk) 21:34, 24 December 2021 (UTC)
