I've removed the phrase:

"the company retains its family heritage"

as this is vague and somewhat meaningless. In what sense has a fortune 500 company "retained its family heritage"? --163.1.176.68 18:37, 27 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Information about labor rights abuses was deleted, as was a link to the Union's site. These possible Astroturf edits have been reverted. Delirium of disorder 16:12, 15 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

There should be some mention of the controversy surrounding Smithfields business practices (i.e. the ones here http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/story/12840743/porks_dirty_secret_the_nations_top_hog_producer_is_also_one_of_americas_worst_polluters) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.63.247.2 (talk) 14:24, 18 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

The article got taken down, but someone reposted it [1]. Can we integrate this into the article somehow? There's a flurry of information about the lagoons of pig crap and such that Smithfield has caused. klosterdev (talk) 00:10, 5 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
